Miss Michigan Spirit

Name: Jasmina Basic-Miss Michigan Spirit 2011
Age: 19 (13.11.1991)
Hobbies and recreation: Dancing is my number one hobby, and in it, I specialize in hip hop and modern. However, some call it a hobby, well, for me its life. I love playing sports such as futbol, and volleyball. For recreational activities I am a volunteer mentor/advise a group of high school (My former H.S.-Everett High School) students in a performing arts group called The Urban Arts Society High School.
Goals: My personal goals, or i should call it my “selfish” goals – since they’re all about me, are to become a performer. Performing has been in me since I learned how to walk. I love to act, and dance, and I work hard for it day in and day out. I live, breathe, sleep, and eat performing. A dream of mine is to work with Bruno Mars; I hope I get to be his leading girl in a video of his, or something like that, or choreograph the dance number even! My “un-selfish” goals are to make the world a better place. I want to be a role model and inspiration to young women who are just like me. I have terrible self-confidence, and I want girls to know that IF I COULD DO IT, THEN THEY FOR SURE CAN!!!! I also LOVE children and hope to adopt a few of them myself, like maybe two from each continent-a boy and a girl. That would be awesome! I believe that the children are our future, they need to have good childhoods, in order to think positive and continue creating. it is no longer about us, it is now on the kids, we have future leaders, heroes, musicians, artists, historians, teachers, I COULD GO ON FOREVER! They need to be cared for, and loved so that they can blossom properly. Another thing I want to create is a performing arts academy for people who cannot afford to go to actual performing arts schools. I would call it The Urban Arts Academy because that is the group I first joined my sophomore year in high school, later I became the president, and I fell in love with leading. I want to create this academy in my state, and then make one in each state. I know what its like to not go to a performing arts school, because I was accepted to one of the top ten in the nation, and I couldn’t go because I didn’t have the money to pay for the rest of the tuition. WE NEED TO HELP DREAMS BECOME A REALITY, AND I WANT TO BE THE ONE TO DO IT!
What does American Spirit Pageants mean to you?: Well, here’s a little story to help better explain. At first, I AM NOT GOING TO LIE, I thought that I shouldn’t participate, and that I wouldn’t be the right material for it, that I just was not beautiful enough to even try. My friends dared me to do it, because they knew how deeply in love I was with Mario Lopez, and they just thought it would be mega cool to meet him. WOW!! How shallow right? However, after my phone interview, I got a call from the rep. – Charlene Williams- telling me the judges liked me, and my answers. I was flabbergasted, I totally lost my mind. I couldn’t believe it. The American Spirit Pageant means a lot to me. It boosted my confidence up by a lot. However, it’s not about me, it’s about the children. I love children and I would do anything to help a them. This pageant has taught me that its not about outer beauty, or how much money you have, or even Mario Lopez!! YES PEOPLE, I went there!! It is about inner beauty and what you do for others, winning a crown and sash doesn’t matter, you truly win when you help. THAT is what the ASP has taught me. I hope it teaches the future generations the same and more!!
Thank you to all my friends and family for their help and support.
