Each of the Contestants competing for an American Spirit Title will be judged in four phases of competition, and the results will be weighed according to the following schedule:
Interview 35%
Fitness (Swimsuit or Aerobic Wear) 27.5%
Evening Gown 27.5%
Fundraising 10%
1. Interview and Resume
This accounts for 35% of a Contestant’s total score. Contestants should dress and act as though they were interviewing for a job…that of Ambassador for the American Spirit Pageants.
The impression you make on the judges is important. But, equally important is what you do outside of the judges’ presence. Therefore, each Contestant will provide a resume, of sorts, giving biographical information outlining education and work experience as well as community and charitable involvement. Spend time preparing that profile information because it WILL be considered as part of your interview evaluation.
The interview will be conducted by, and in front of, the judging panel only. It will be comfortable and conversational. Contestants should exhibit poise, confidence, grace, charm and intelligence. As an American Spirit Pageant titleholder you must be articulate and let your personality shine through. Contestants may be asked to speak about work, school or life experiences. She may be asked to speak about successes, talents, goals, ambitions, hobbies or anything else she would like to offer. Contestants will be judged on personality and communication skills, not their opinions and personal beliefs.
2. Fitness
This accounts for 27.5% of a Contestant’s total score. Scoring attention is focused on poise, stage presence, physical fitness, presentation and the manner in which the Contestant carries herself. You will be required to wear the following according to your competition category:
Miss Teen- Contestants are required to wear a one-piece swimsuit. Reasonable coverage is required; no Brazilian or Rio back cuts, no thongs, no high French cut suits. There are no color restrictions. Hose are optional, but they must be nude and blend with your skin color. You may wear heels or be barefooted, whichever best suits the style you wish to portray.

Hose are optional, but they must be nude and blend with your skin color. You may wear heels or be barefooted, whichever best suits the style you wish to portray.
Ms. and Mrs.-Contestants may choose a one or two piece swimsuit OR aerobic wear. If a swimsuit is chosen, reasonable coverage is required; no Brazilian or Rio back cuts, no thongs, no high French cut suits. There are no color restrictions. Hose are optional, but they must be nude and blend with your skin color. If a swimsuit is chosen you may wear heels or be barefooted, whichever best suits the style you wish to portray. If aerobic wear is chosen the Contestant should wear shorts, or long pants/tights/leggings to accentuate your figure. Tops may be cropped, bra-style or full length. If you choose aerobic wear you should wear white sneakers with socks or peds.
3. Evening Gown
This accounts for 27.5% of a Contestant’s total score. Each Contestant wears a gown that she has chosen for herself. This is the most elegant portion of the competition. Attention is focused overall appearance, confidence, and beauty she brings to the gown of her choice. The Contestant will be judged on how she wears the gown and presents herself in it. However, the gown itself will not be judged.
4. Fundraising
This accounts for 10% of a Contestant’s total score. The essence of the American Spirit Pageant system is the AMERICAN SPIRIT. Innate in the American Spirit is the desire to help one another. Compassion, charity and a willingness to help those who are less fortunate than us is an important part of this competition. You will be judged on your ability to raise money for charity as well as on a review of the charitable efforts you list in your profile.
To obtain the minimum amount of points in this category a Contestant must raise $250 for American Spirit Charities. This year competition proceeds that are raised for American Spirit Charities will be funneled to the HAVLife Foundation.
Some Contestant’s have the connections to raise a lot of money with very little effort. While we applaud any effort to raise money for worthy causes, our Contestant’s should not be judged on their “connections” but on their desire to help and their ability to do what it takes to accomplish that goal. Therefore, the following rules apply with respect to this category:
A Contestant will gain full credit under this category if she raises a total of $5000 in a manner compliant with the rules. Of course American Spirit Charities, and the HAVlife Foundation, would be more than happy to accept more and an award will be presented to the contestant who raises the most. But, there will be no extra credit awarded towards a Contestant’s total competition score beyond that $5000.
A Contestant or their family member may contribute no more than $1000 towards the $50000 total. The total amount raised must come from at least ten different sources. In other words, at least ten different people must contribute some amount of money in order for any of the contributions to count toward your competition total.
Contestants will be awarded full points by raising at least $5000. Points will be deducted in pro rata fashion for any amount less.
Judges will be looking for women who can represent the true AMERICAN SPIRIT. The winners may not have scored the highest in any one particular category but have the highest cumulative score. They automatically and instantly become role models.
